It is estimated that Georges Bank can generate up to 420,000 tonnes of fish and seafood per year when resources are well managed. On Georges Bank, the connection between the Labrador (cold) and the Gulf Stream (warm) currents, combined with the shallow penetration of sunlight, is an ideal environment for the proliferation of phytoplankton and zooplankton, giving life to one of the largest marine ecosystems in the world.
